FatChanceBellyDance® Style (former American Tribal Style)

Carolena Nericcio, creator of FatChanceBellyDance® Style

FatChanceBellyDance® Style (former American Tribal Style) is an Arabic dance, dance group style that was developed by Carolena Nericcio and her troupe FatChanceBellyDance® in the 80s in San Francisco, California.

Its roots are found in Jamila Salimpour’s Ethnic Style, to which an elegant posture and elements coming from other dance styles were incorporated, i.e. arabic dance (or bellydance), Kathak (a form of Indian dance), flamenco and other folkloric styles.

The idea behind the FCBD® Style format is to allow dancers to perform together by using a codified vocabulary that includes a certain number of formations, movements and cues, which make the communication within the group possible and, therefore, allow to improvise and dance in synchrony without needing to discuss the performance beforehand.

Yuri has been a FatChanceBellyDance® Certified Studio since September 2017 and offers regular in-person classes in Berlin, Germany (see “Classes”), and online dance classes on Zoom (see “Online Classes”).
